29 June 2011

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers oil into biodiesel currently gain from a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been satisfying with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of small services in Cornwall currently generate income from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this kind of market going it does require just a bit of lift which can be found in the kind of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
